Privacy Policy
Welcome to Word Ladders!
This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how Word Game Geeks Ltd (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Word Ladders mobile application (the “App”). By using the App, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Summary of key points
- Word Ladders is a free, ad-supported puzzle game with an optional in-app purchase to remove ads.
- You do not need an account. Your progress, coins, stats and settings are stored on your device.
- We do not run our own servers for the App and do not collect your name, email address or contacts.
- Ads are shown through Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, the App asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice later in Settings.
- We use Google Firebase for analytics and crash reporting, and Google Play Games Services for leaderboards and achievements on Android.
- Purchases are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store; we never see your payment card details.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
1. Information we collect
Information stored on your device
- Game progress. The levels you have finished, how long each took, whether you used clues or revealed the answer, and when you finished.
- Coins. Your coin balance, when you last claimed daily coins, and how many rewarded videos you have watched today.
- Settings. Your chosen theme, whether vibration is on, and whether you have seen the tutorial.
- Purchase status. Whether you have bought “Remove ads”, so the App can remember it when you are offline.
This information stays on your device. If your device backs up app data (for example Android backup or iCloud), it may be included in that backup under the platform provider’s terms.
Information collected automatically by third parties
- Usage and analytics data (Google Analytics for Firebase): for example screens viewed, levels started and finished, app version, device type and operating system version.
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): technical details about errors, such as stack traces, device model, operating system version and the time of the crash.
- Advertising data (Google AdMob): advertising identifiers (for example Google’s Advertising ID or Apple’s IDFA), IP address, device information and your interactions with ads, used to deliver, measure and, where you allow it, personalise ads.
- Play Games data (Google Play Games Services, Android): if you are signed in to Play Games, your scores and achievements are sent to Google and may be shown to other players according to your Play Games settings.
Information we do not collect
- We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or location.
- We do not receive your full payment card details.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- run the game, save your progress and show your stats;
- work out whether ads should be shown, and give you coins for watching rewarded videos;
- understand how the App is used and improve it;
- find and fix crashes and other technical problems;
- show leaderboards and achievements through Play Games;
- comply with legal obligations.
3. Advertising
Word Ladders shows ads to support the free game: a short video between some levels, and optional videos you can choose to watch for coins. Ads are delivered by Google AdMob.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or anywhere else the law requires it, the App asks for your consent through Google’s consent form before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time from Settings → Ad privacy choices. You can also limit ad tracking in your device settings (for example “Delete advertising ID” on Android or “Allow Apps to Request to Track” on iOS).
Buying Remove ads stops the videos between levels. Rewarded videos stay available if you want to earn coins.
4. In-app purchases
Payment is processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store, not by us. We receive only the information needed to unlock what you bought (for example that “Remove ads” has been purchased). For payment details and refunds, please see Google’s or Apple’s terms.
5. How we share information
- With the service providers listed below, who process information to provide their services to us.
- For legal reasons, if we believe disclosure is required by law or to protect rights, safety and security.
- In connection with a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Where required by law, sharing information with advertising partners for personalised advertising may be considered a “sale” or “share”; see the California section below.
6. Third-party services
These providers process information under their own privacy policies:
- Google Play Services
- Google AdMob
- Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics
- Google Play Games Services
- Apple platform services (on iOS)
7. Data retention
Information on your device stays until you clear the App’s data or uninstall it. Third-party providers keep the information they collect according to their own retention policies.
8. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
9. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Because your game data is kept on your device, you can delete it at any time by clearing the App’s data or uninstalling it. For other requests, contact us at support@wordgamegeeks.com.
European Economic Area and United Kingdom
Our legal basis for processing is usually our legitimate interest in running and improving the App, and your consent where the law requires it (for example for personalised ads). Information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States, with appropriate safeguards where required. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
California
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. Ad partners may use advertising identifiers and device information for cross-context behavioural advertising, which California law may treat as “sharing”. You can opt out through your device’s ad settings or by contacting us at support@wordgamegeeks.com.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Policy and change the “Last updated” date above.
