Welcome to Letter Chess!

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how Word Game Geeks Ltd (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Letter Chess mobile application and related online services (collectively, the “Services”).

Please read this Policy together with our Terms of Service. By using the Services, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

Summary of key points

  • Letter Chess is provided by Word Game Geeks Ltd. The app may be free to use and ad-supported, with optional in-app purchases or subscriptions.
  • We collect information needed to operate the app, including a device-generated user identifier, optional username, gameplay and puzzle activity, and technical data such as app version and platform.
  • If you create or submit puzzles, we store the puzzle content you provide (for example board layout, title, target word, and related metadata) on our servers.
  • We use third-party services, including Google Firebase, for analytics, crash reporting, and push notifications.
  • The Services may display advertisements through Google AdMob and other third-party ad networks, which may collect information for ad delivery and measurement.
  • If you make in-app purchases or subscribe, payment is processed by the app store (Apple App Store or Google Play); we receive subscription status but not your full payment card details.
  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete certain personal information, and in some regions to opt out of certain advertising uses.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Username or nickname. You may choose a display name shown with puzzles you create or solve. Usernames are stored on your device and may be sent to our servers.
  • User-generated puzzles. When you create and submit a puzzle, we collect the puzzle data you provide, which may include board arrangement, puzzle title, target word, solution steps, category, language, and a generated preview image.
  • Gameplay activity. When you play, review, or rate puzzles, we may record puzzle identifiers, completion status, ratings, streak information, and related gameplay metadata.
  • Communications. If you contact us, we collect the information you choose to send (such as your email address and message contents).
  • Push notification preferences. If you enable notifications, we may store a push token and reminder settings such as preferred time of day and time zone.
  • Purchase and subscription information. If you buy in-app products or subscribe, we receive information about your purchase or subscription status from the app store, such as the product purchased, whether a subscription is active, renewal status, and expiry date. We do not receive your full payment card number or billing address.

Information collected automatically

  • User identifier. The app creates and stores a unique user ID on your device so we can associate your activity with your account on our servers.
  • Usage and analytics data. We collect information about how you use the Services, such as screens viewed, puzzles viewed or solved, app version, platform (for example Android or iOS), and whether you are using a debug build.
  • Device and log data. Our servers and third-party providers may collect technical information such as IP address, device type, operating system version, timestamps, and crash or error reports.
  • Local app data. Some information, such as puzzle history, achievements, language preference, and tutorial progress, may be stored locally on your device.
  • Advertising data. If advertisements are shown, ad partners such as Google AdMob and other third-party ad networks may collect information such as advertising identifiers (for example Apple’s IDFA or Google’s Advertising ID), IP address, device type, app interactions, and ad views or clicks to deliver, measure, and personalize ads.

Information we do not collect

  • We do not require you to create an account with an email address or password to use the core Services.
  • We do not receive your full payment card details. Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google, and we receive only the purchase or subscription status information described above.

2. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services;
  • create and display user profiles, leaderboards, streaks, achievements, and puzzle attribution;
  • host, publish, distribute, and moderate user-created puzzles;
  • send push notifications you have requested, such as daily puzzle or streak reminders;
  • monitor performance, diagnose crashes, and fix technical issues;
  • understand usage trends and improve user experience;
  • enforce our Terms of Service, including content standards for usernames and puzzles;
  • process and manage in-app purchases and subscriptions, including providing premium features and determining whether ads should be shown;
  • display advertisements and measure ad performance, where ads are enabled;
  • comply with legal obligations and protect the rights, safety, and security of Word Game Geeks Ltd, our users, and the public.

3. User-generated content and puzzles

Puzzles and related content you submit may be visible to other users and the public, including through sharing links. By submitting a puzzle, you understand that information associated with your submission (such as your username, puzzle title, and puzzle content) may be stored, displayed, and used by us as described in this Policy and in our Terms of Service.

User-created puzzles are considered the property of Word Game Geeks Ltd once submitted. We may retain, use, modify, or remove submitted puzzles at our sole discretion, including after you stop using the Services.

4. How we share information

We may share information:

  • With service providers that help us operate the Services (for example hosting, analytics, crash reporting, push delivery, payment validation, and advertising).
  • With advertising partners such as Google AdMob and other third-party ad networks, to serve and measure advertisements in the app.
  • With other users and the public when you choose a username, submit puzzles, or otherwise make information public through the Services.
  • For legal reasons if we believe disclosure is required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • In connection with a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Where required by law, certain sharing of information with advertising partners for personalized or cross-context behavioral advertising may be considered a “sale” or “share”; see the California section below for opt-out information.

5. Advertising

Letter Chess may display advertisements to support the free version of the app. Ads may be delivered through Google AdMob and other third-party ad networks we may add from time to time.

Ad partners may use advertising identifiers, device information, and information about your interactions with ads to show relevant ads, limit how often you see an ad, measure ad effectiveness, and detect fraud. Ad content is provided by third parties, and their data practices are governed by their own privacy policies.

You can limit ad tracking through your device settings (for example “Limit Ad Tracking” on iOS or “Opt out of Ads Personalization” on Android). If you subscribe to a paid tier that removes ads, we will not show advertisements in the app while that subscription is active.

6. In-app purchases and subscriptions

The Services may offer optional in-app purchases or subscriptions (for example to remove ads or access premium content). When you make a purchase:

  • payment is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play store, not directly by Word Game Geeks Ltd;
  • we receive information about the purchase or subscription status needed to unlock features;
  • we may receive information such as time remaining on a subscription, whether auto-renewal is enabled, and whether a subscription was cancelled by you or because a payment method expired.

We do not receive or store your credit or debit card number, name on card, or full billing address. For payment details and refund policies, refer to Apple’s or Google’s terms.

7. Third-party services

The Services use third-party services that may collect information used to identify your device or help us understand how the app is used. These providers process information under their own privacy policies:

Additional third-party ad networks may be used from time to time. When we add a new ad partner, their privacy policy will apply to information they collect through the Services.

Third-party libraries may use cookies or similar technologies on web properties linked from the app. Ad partners may also use similar technologies within the app for ad delivery and measurement.

8. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. User-generated puzzles and related records may be retained even after you stop using the Services, subject to our content moderation and removal policies.

9. Security

We use commercially reasonable measures designed to protect the information we collect. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children’s privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

If you are at least 13 but not of legal age in your jurisdiction, you may use the Services only with the consent and involvement of a parent or legal guardian.

11. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information we hold about you, or to object to or restrict certain processing. We may need to verify your request and may decline requests where permitted by law.

To make a privacy request, contact us at support@wordgamegeeks.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and as required by applicable law.

European Economic Area and United Kingdom

If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal basis for processing personal data typically includes performance of our contract with you (our Terms of Service), our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Services, and compliance with legal obligations. Where required, we rely on your consent (for example for optional notifications).

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California

If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, and the right to request deletion of personal information, subject to certain exceptions.

Where advertisements are shown, we and our ad partners may use personal information (such as advertising identifiers and device information) for cross-context behavioral advertising. Under California law, this may be considered “sharing” or “selling” personal information. You may opt out of such uses by adjusting your device ad-tracking settings, using platform opt-out tools where available, or contacting us at support@wordgamegeeks.com.

12. Links to other services

The Services may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

13. International users

Word Game Geeks Ltd operates the Services from the United Kingdom. If you access the Services from outside the United Kingdom, you understand that your information may be processed in the United Kingdom and other countries where we or our service providers operate.

14. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Policy and revise the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Services after changes become effective means you accept the updated Policy.
